The Barbie Doll – Lead Vocalist
at around 4:35 David Choi was asked who was his favorite band and he said that he likes 2NE1!
2NE1, formed of Park Bom, CL, Sandara Park and Minzy, has been one of the iconic K-pop girl groups in Korea known for their music and fashion since making their debut in May, 2009.
Their singing career in Japan, which began in September, 2011, took off to a smooth start as well. The girls did not waste much time to top Oricon’s weekly album chart and Apple iTunes’ Japan’s international and pop album charts, with debut mini-album “NOLZA,” upon its release.
Their next album, the first original Japanese single “GO AWAY,” kept up their popularity on a roll by sitting at No. 9 on Oricon’s daily album chart on the day of its release last November.
All three teams are the representative girl groups of the ‘Big 3′ agencies YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and SM Entertainment. The three teams have claimed numerous #1 victories on various music programs with each new release, and their comebacks are expected to turn the K-Pop industry into a warzone.
The Wonder Girls were the ones to strike first among the three by releasing their new title song “Like This” along with the accompanying MV.
“Like This” is a song written and composed by JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park, and contains an easy and upbeat hip hop rhythm with repetitive lyrics that make it simple to sing along to. Fans are responding positively to the girls’ new mature appearance and the exciting new song.
“Like This” was released the same day as Big Bang‘s “Monster“, and it has been a close fight between the two to maintain the #1 spot on music charts. Wonder Girls’ subtracks have also ranked high on the charts, captivating the ears of fans everywhere. Furthermore, the “Like This” MV received over 1 million views on YouTube in just a single day. Because the girls have until now received attention for their fresh, catchy songs and infectious dances moves, anticipation is rising for their broadcast promotions. Wonder Girls will be officially kicking off their comeback activities with performances on various music programs this week.
f(x) will also be making their respective comeback.
SM Entertainment reported on June 5th, “f(x) will be releasing their new mini-album ‘Electric Shock‘ all over the world through Itunes and various music sites on June 10th.”
This is the first album to be released by f(x) in a year since the group became one of the hottest girl groups after earning #1 wins with “Hot Summer” and “Pinocchio” last summer.
With each new album release, f(x) has consistently been acknowledged for their experimental and unique musical style, and expectations for this new release continue to rise as each of the five girls are determined to display their individuality, fresh new music, and upgraded performances.
For five days starting on June 6th, f(x) will be releasing teaser images of each of the members via their official homepage and Facebook pages to reveal their new concept.
Finally, YG Entertainment has also announced 2NE1′s June comeback, but not a lot of information regarding their return has been reported.
Like f(x), this is 2NE1′s first release in a year after dropping “I Am The Best” last June.
2NE1 won the hearts and minds of their fans immediately after their K-Pop debut, and the girls are causing their fans to go wild with news of their comeback alone. In a recent poll, 2NE1′s comeback was voted as the one fans are most looking forward to, proving the girls’ influence.
YG Entertainment is choosing to remain silent on the form and concept of 2NE1′s new album, as well as the exact date of their return. All that’s known so far is that the girls have worked on this new album with their exclusive producer Teddy Park, and that they are deciding which track should be their title song.
2NE1′s exact comeback dates have not been reported, however, they are expected to drop their new album towards the middle of June, which means they will be directly competing head-on with Wonder Girls and f(x).
2NE1, f(x), Wonder Girls… the sound of their names alone cause fans hearts to flutter a mile a minute. All three teams have shown amazing musical development and transformation with each new album, and the industry is already excited to see how they will captivate their fans this time around.
How well do you know K-Pop? K-Pop (Korean Pop) is not just a foreign music fetish from a far-away country in Asia, but a new global opportunity to market digital content. K-Pop is at the forefront of Korean wave, the global spread of Korean culture. Do you want to wow the world with digital presence? Then you should take a serious look at K-pop.
In 2011, Billboard officially launched the “Korea K-Pop Hot 100″. Global media, including Le Mondeand Bloomberg, have praised K-pop fans around the world for building their own dynamic community without huge launch budget. Just last year, hundreds of fans flash-mobbed outside the Louvre, calling for an additional K-Pop concert in Paris.
K-Pop fandom is neither attributed to huge marketing spend nor to interest in Korean culture. It isfueled by clicks from the world’s teenagers, immediately and constantly spreading K-Pop across the globe.
This year, Cheil has teamed up with global K-Pop icons 2NE1 at Cannes to provide a fun seminar for marketers looking to take advantage of K-Pop fever. If you want to wow the world with your brand’s digital presence, join us for this in-depth look at how K-Pop is taking over the world.
In this session, SJ Kimm, Cheil’s expert on the K-Pop craze (and superfan) and 2NE1, the trend-setting artists, explore how digital, social and cultural factors worldwide have combined to push this seemingly niche music genre to mainstream pop status, and how brands can ride the wave.

2ne1’s Park Bom continues to impress with her stunning figure and beauty. On the 5th of June, the girls of 2ne1 attended the launching of Intel’s “Ultrabook” and the girls looked impressive but Park Bom seems to have caught the attention of the reports.
On the launch, Park Bom arrived wearing a black mini dress which is her signature fashion outfit which compliments her S-line figure very well and she paired her dress with a fierce black studded high heels. Park Bom looked liked a real life barbie doll with her braid and S-line figure. Check out more photo’s of Park Bom at the event, what do you think?
Intel Korea has been running their latest project with 2NE1, entitled ‘Make Thumb Noise’. This program gave blackjacks the chance to co-produce a song, along side with Teddy, for 2NE1. This program also had an entertaining game, entitled ‘Tap The Beat’, that was similar to that of ‘Tap Tap Revolution’. This phenomenal program ran four rounds overall. This allowed blackjacks, from around the world, to vote for what side they liked better. This fascinating program had blackjacks swarming to the program, and Intel Korea’s page, day and night. Blackjacks voted as much as they could, and even played the game for countless entertaining hours. Eventually MTV released its voting polls for 2NE1, and blackjacks swarmed the website. However, they did not let up on Intel Korea’s program. They still swarmed the page, and left nothing but good comments.
Intel Korea released 2NE1’s title song, entitled ‘Be Mine’, on June fifth. The site had complications involving the release of the music video, and delayed the song release by about an hour. This gave blackjacks, from around the world, to set the number trend on Twitter with #2NE1BeMine. Blackjacks practically spammed Twitter, with their obsessive tweets relating to 2NE1. Some even tweeted nothing but #2NE1BeMine. This just showed how loyal, and impatient, blackjacks were getting with Intel Korea’s technical difficulties.
Intel Korea eventually released ‘Be Mine’, and it was nothing more than a major hit. Blackjacks immediately swarmed to the video, reaching well over five thousand views in less than an hour. Blackjacks weren’t hesitant to spread the word either, reaching large amounts of Twitter, Facebook, me2day, and other social networking websites in less than a minute of the songs release.
Papa YG has outdone himself, yet again. ‘Be Mine’ contains angelic vocals, from all four girls, in such a manner that relates all the way back to ‘Lonely’. The girls not only sounded angelic, but looked like angels as wells. The video contains a, for the most part, all white setting. The all white setting gives off the angelic feel, and 2NE1 fits the role of four lovely angels perfectly. This video portrays the four girls in such a beautiful way, that most of us haven’t seen before. CL, Dara, Minzy, and Bom all look stunningly gorgeous. Each giving off their own unique aurora, that draws blackjacks in striving for more. The video also contains flashbacks of recent 2NE1 history. Giving blackjacks a chance to observe 2NE1 ‘grow up’ somewhat. Intel Korea did an excellent job in advertising their product as well, cleverly placing it in every scene. While this isn’t noted as 2NE1’s official comeback, I have no doubt that this will steal the charts.
This video leaves the question; If 2NE1’s Make Thumb Noise project song could become this popular, and sound this phenomenal, what will their comeback be like? Blackjacks are becoming even more anxious, and impatient, as time slowly edges its way towards 2NE1’s comeback. Stay tuned, and keep your eyes out, for 2NE1’s official comeback teasers. (2NE1 is expected to make their comeback midway through June)
